In I.T Technical Support, you will be tasked with monitoring and maintaining an organisation’s computer systems and networks. You will be responsible for diagnosing any hardware or software faults with these systems and will solve the issues either in person or over the phone.

This 1 year course is aimed at a learner who has passed Grade 11, and is looking to be an Information and communication technician, with prospects of future growth in an IT career. The purpose of this qualification is to build a foundational entry into the field of Computer Sciences and Information Technology, specifically into the field of Systems Support, covering basic knowledge needed for further study in the field of Systems Support at Higher Education Levels. Earning this Certificate will qualify the learner for jobs such as a Computer Technician.*

PROGRAMME INFORMATION

The Programme is comprised of correspondence self study, completing and submitting of Assignments online, attending scheduled workshops (not compulsory), and writing final summative Exams at the chosen campus.

WORKSHOPS
Workshops will be scheduled during the semester at for students to attend at the campus. Learners must RSVP for the workshops. There will be no additional workshop dates provided. Dates will be pro-vided to learners in the Programme Academic Handbook in the welcome pack.

ASSIGNMENTS
Learners must submit Assignments via the Student Portal by the due date and no later. Due dates and instructions will be provided to learners in the Programme Academic Handbook in the welcome pack.

EXAMINATIONS
Learners must write Examinations on the provided dates at the chosen campus. Exam dates and instructions will be provided to learners in the Programme Academic Handbook in the welcome pack.

GRADUATION
Learners may attend the formal Graduation Ceremony on the earliest available date after completing the programme, provided fees are settled in full.

Support will be offered to learners by way of electronic assistance. A support ticket will be issued via the email system that a subject matter expert will respond to. Personal support is provided at Workshops.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
Learners who successfully complete their qualifications with iStudent Academy have members only access to the Career Development Programme, where exclusive job opportunities for our Graduates are posted.

Learners will be enrolled in the current intake that is open. This intake will run for one year after the closing date. Learners will have to abide by that intakes Assignment, Workshop and Examination Dates. Learners must complete their programme in the allocated duration or they will pay per module not completed.

MODULES

IT101 - END USER COMPUTING

15 Credits

This module focuses on introducing and developing students' business computing skills and their understanding of computing in a business environment.

Business computing skills covered in the course relate to spreadsheets, word processing, search techniques and the use of computers as a presentation medium, using the Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

IT102 - HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE FUNDAMENTALS

43 Credits

This module covers the CompTIA A+ Hardware and Software Cirriculum, and the aim is to introduce learners to hardware and software fundamentals, such as PC infrastructure, peripherals, troubleshooting and installations.

IT103 - NETWORKING FUNDAMENTALS

29 Credits

This module covers components of the CompTIA N+ and Microsoft MTA 40366 Cirriculum. The aim of this module is to introduce Networking concepts such as topologies, WiFi, IP Addressing, LAN, WAN and network configurations.

IT104 - SECURITY FUNDAMENTALS

10 credits

This module cover the Microsoft MTA 40367 curriculum, and focuses on introducing learners to security risks to a PC Infrastructure such as Trojans, worms, viruses and risk management.

IT106 - OPERATING SYSTEMS

20 Credits

The aim of this module is to introduce learners to full operating system installations, and configure a multi-user networked operating system.

IT108 - TECHNICAL SUPPORT

31 Credits

This module will enable the learner to provide technical customer support, diagnose faults and provide structured solutions.

IT109 - BUSINESS SKILLS

14 Credits

This module will give the learners an understanding of types of businesses, entrepreneurship, organisational procedures and business plans within the South African I.T sector.
